🌿 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗼𝘀 (also known as moss balls) are a rare form of algae that grows into green spheres with a velvety look 🌳 the species name is 𝙖𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙡𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙖𝙚𝙞, and it was first found in the 1820s (lake zell, austria) 🌱 it was named marimo by a japanese botanist in 1898 - '𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶' means bouncy ball, '𝗺𝗼' is a generic term for plants that grow under water 🌿 all they need to be happy is 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 and very 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, never direct (they live in the dark bottom of cold lakes, so we should try to replicate their habitat as much as possible) 🌳 they can live up over 100 years and be passed through generations 🌱 @marimo.friends
